Book Questions

Why should I buy your book?

I read many books when I was pregnant but none of them covered all the things that I could do to prepare for a baby.  I wrote this book to help women come up to speed on babies especially if they know more about spreadsheets than spit-up.  While reading Chapter 2, you can adequately prepare yourself, as well as your husband, parents, and in-laws on what to expect and how to help you and the baby.  Please read the two sample chapters online for free <click here> to see the value in this book.

What makes your book different from the others in the baby section at the bookstore?

I’m always looking through the shelves to see what new books are offered.  None cover the subject my first two chapters cover.  Preparing yourself mentally for the added joys and challenges of a baby is an important part of preparing as is picking out the mattress for the baby to sleep on.  The rest of the book is unique, also, in that it covers everything you can do *before* the baby comes.  Everything from preparing your house to your finances to even learning when stores have the best sales.

You are not famous – what makes you the best author for a book on babies?

I just want to help other women come up to speed on babies and be prepared for a great time with their little one.  I’m just a regular mom that took on the challenge of writing down what I learned instead of just saying “I should write a book.”  I am the best author of this type of book because I don’t have extra resources like celebrity moms and understand the value of saving money.

Why aren’t you published through a regular publisher?

Interestingly enough, books published today usually come from people who are famous or have killed someone famous.  Publishers look for instant hits and if the author already has a following, it is almost a sure-thing.  For the rest of us, it is harder to get published unless we have already sold a bunch of books, or we already have a big speaking tour.  If I can show a publisher that new moms love my book, it could happen.

Why did you write it?

About 18 months ago, I was at my former co-worker’s baby shower (her first) and I found myself giving advice.  She suggested that I write it down for her.  Since she was due in a month, I quickly wrote down 3 pages of odd bits of information and sent it to her.  She loved it but asked if I could explain things more and thus the project started.  I started writing almost every day during my children’s naps.  After over 18 months, I now have 300 pages crammed full of helpful info and true stories.

When should I order Proactive Pregnancy?

The best time to prepare for a baby is as soon as you find out you’re pregnant!  Proactive Pregnancy gets you ready for a new baby by suggesting many activities for you to accomplish before the baby is born.  Plan on buying the book as early in your pregnancy as possible so that you’ll have lots of time to read it.  If you are already in your 3rd trimester, you still have time!  At the end of each chapter, I have a checklist of the major points from the chapter to make sure you are equipped with the skills covered in that chapter.  You can quickly flip through and see what you have left to learn or accomplish.

Does Proactive Pregnancy give medical information?

No, it doesn’t.  The author is not a doctor or in any medical field.  If you have questions about your pregnancy you should contact your doctor or midwife.

Will my husband want to read it?

Maybe, but I wrote it with the mom in mind.  The second chapter provides questions for you to go over with your husband so that you can set expectations for your family.  I do suggest that you both read a humorous book written from the dad’s perspective.

When should I start a registry?

Make sure you have read Chapter 4, Buying Baby Gear, and then go to the store to start your registry. This book gives you advice on what types of things you’ll need as well as important safety concerns to consider.
